NCTCOG kicks off Mobility 2035 Amendment

Planners are recommending several changes to the Mobility 2035 – 2013 Update that will include project additions and minor modifications to others already part of the region’s long-range transportation plan. Since the plan update was adopted last year, several corridor studies have taken place resulting in changes that must be made to allow some projects to go forward. Others are being proposed as new projects, part of the continuing effort to provide a safe, efficient transportation system for the coming decades. The next plan is not scheduled to be approved until early 2016.

The Surface Transportation Technical Committee last month heard a presentation laying out the proposed recommendations, which include three new projects and changes to the timeframe, cost and scope of others already in the plan.

The new projects being recommended are:

- Two additional lanes on Interstate Highway 35E in Ellis County, bringing the stretch to three lanes in each direction

- Additional capacity for State Highway 114 to eliminate a bottleneck east of the SH 170 interchange

- A toll road in the Blacklands Corridor between Garland and Greenville

The amendment process is still in the early stages and will continue through the summer and early fall. NCTCOG staff will present revisions to the region’s plan at a series of public meetings September 8-10, providing residents the opportunity to offer feedback on the recommendations. The Regional Transportation Council will consider the change in October. For questions about the plan amendment email mobilityplan@nctcog.org.
